What are the systems requirements?

DataAlways runs on all leading operating systems: Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Solaris, AIX and Linux

How does DataAlways impact my network performance?

Even though DataAlways is continuously working in the background, protecting your data, you would never know. Advanced bandwidth management technology allows DataAlways to work transparently, so users can continue working productively on the things that matter most to your business.

Is DataAlways secure?

Your data is stored in Veraz Information's secure, high-availability Tier I data center. And DataAlways uses end-to-end 128-bit encryption, meaning that all data is fully encrypted when transmitted and received.

Can DataAlways protect my data when I am not in the office?

Because DataAlways transmits your data over the Internet, your data will be continuously protected anywhere in the world where you can find an Internet connection. Even when you are not connected the Internet, DataAlways can make sure any data changes or creation that has taken place since you were last connected will be backed up the next time you connect, giving you a truly comprehensive data protection.

How easy is it for users to restore files?

DataAlways restores data the same way it is backed up: instantly, via the Internet, giving you immediate access to all of your data following any kind of business disruption. The intuitive, easy-to-use Recovery Wizard walks you through any type of file recovery in six steps or less. Upon request, data can also be delivered or picked up from the Veraz data center.

How easy is DataAlways to install and manage?

The installation process is simple and intuitive, even for someone who is non-technical. After purchase, installation takes less than 10 minutes. The step-by-step installer prompts you through the process in five steps.  You can install DataAlways any time of day with no need for technical support personnel to be present, though support is available if required.

Does DataAlways protect against viruses?

With some data protection solutions, viruses can get into your network and even into your back ups, corrupting your protected data. In the event that your network gets infected with a virus, DataAlways can restore everything - systems, files, O/S, databases – to a pre-virus state, keeping your assets protected.

What exactly can I protect with DataAlways?

The baseline DataAlways service will cover all of your desktops, laptops, critical servers, databases, operating systems and applications.

Where is my protected data stored?

Your data is stored and backed up in Veraz Information's secure, high-availability Tier I data center. The facility is locked 24/7 and only authorized Veraz Information employees are permitted to enter.

Can DataAlways be configured to work through my firewall?

Setting up DataAlways to provide backup for remote and laptop users outside the company firewall is quite simple. Configure your firewall to allow traffic on port 8079, and then you are ready to run DataAlways.

How much does DataAlways cost?

Pricing for the DataAlways service starts at $15 per month to protect 10GB. For specific pricing on higher capacities or multi-year contracts, please email or call Veraz at 408.385.1867.

What does “transparency” mean?

When we say “transparent,” we’re referring to the fact that our product accomplishes its goals (reliable and comprehensive PC backup and data migration) without negatively affecting network traffic, IT staff workload or end-user productivity.

How is DataAlways transparent to the end-user?

The DataAlways Client agent operates completely in the background. Data is automatically backed up whenever new data is saved. There are no schedules to set, and the PC never needs to be taken off-line. Users can work with their applications just as they would normally.  With DataAlways installed, users can be assured that their little mistakes won’t be fatal or permanent, and severe damage from virus attacks or hardware failures can be reversed.

DataAlways even pays attention to bandwidth resources on the client. The Bandwidth Auto-throttle feature makes sure that laptop users with low-bandwidth connections can take full advantage of DataAlways.

Does DataAlways protect against viruses?

DataAlways does versioning and mirroring at the system level, so it will intercept and track changes (damage) to files that are caused by a virus infection. DataAlways will not prevent a virus attack, but it will be very effective at treating its effects. As an example, the System Rollback feature can be used to completely undo the consequences of a virus attack and restore the infected PC to its working, uninfected state.

What are the benefits to the mobile/laptop user not always connected to the LAN?

DataAlways protects continuously, even when your desktop or laptop is disconnected from the Internet. When changes are made to a file, those changes are captured locally on the hard disk, and when a server connection is established, the accumulated information is transmitted to the server. Even changes made while on an airplane are backed up once the computer is reconnected to the Internet.

Why is “continuous protection” important?
Real-time backup allows DataAlways to capture all versions of a file, not just those versions that existed during a backup cycle.  Consequently, the odds of a particular version of a file being unrecoverable are very slim. Additionally, other features such as System Rollback would not be possible without real-time backup.

What does “bare-metal disaster recovery” mean?
PCs that do not have a bootable operating system installed are often described as “bare metal.”  With this in mind, bare-metal disaster recovery refers to the process of restoring a PC from this bare state to a working state backed up by DataAlways. Unlike traditional methods of bare-metal restores that can take many steps, DataAlways can perform a bare metal recovery in one easy step.

Typical scenarios requiring bare-metal disaster recovery are when

- The PC suffers a catastrophic hard drive crash

- A PC is lost or stolen, and you want to recreate this PC on a replacement PC (same hardware of course)

- A Windows installation is corrupted so badly that it will not boot properly

- A malicious virus attack causes severe damage to a PC’s configuration

- A power failure causes catastrophic data loss

DataAlways Disaster Recovery enables you to recover your system from all of these disasters.
